Tulip Swap - CloBird Designs

So CloBird Designs is hosting a swap on the Facebook group. Her design, the Tulip, is a free pattern via Craftsy. It's cute and fun and a quick sew!

I actually have two swap partners. :) 

First, I created one to make sure I could do it in the allotted time (it takes an hour, so definitely can).

Here's my tester. I had never sewn with knit before, so that was a first. It was a tad too thick, so I think the thinner cotton for my swap will come out much more nicely. 

Here are the fabrics for my swap partners. I haven't decided on the solid for the second one. 

I'll post an update when I'm done. I need to finish them this weekend so that I can mail them Monday. :)

Well, I sewed the zip on upside down, so they were done Wednesday. I also decided against the batik. I forgot to take a pic when I finished, so this is what I've got for ya!

That's the back. I added clover clips, double sided tape, and a cork wrist strap. 

One of my partners already sent hers. She sent me some wonderful soap with it! Yum! And she did such a beautiful job! I'm using it as part of my EPP kit. It's the perfect size for my scissors and moda tin!

August Not Another Sew Along

So I started my August NASA. This month is an embroidery hoop. I am putting it above the guest toilet and I'm making one for a friend as a housewarming gift. 

I'll upload a pic later. 

08/29/16 update. I stitched the letters for my friend's hoop. This was her request. I keep forgetting to get a pic of my progress. 

Not Another Sew Along.

I joined a group on Facebook just for sew alongs.  The first one is the Martha Tote by ithinksew found on Craftsy for free. 

The leader is moving more slowly than me (what?!) so I finished mine up this weekend. I have a second to work on as well. I had purchased "kits" from 2Minutes2Stitch.  Below is the first one. I'll add the second one to this post when it's done. Love!!

Quarter Moon Sew Along

I joined a sew along last month. It was for June's Bag Of The Month. It is called the Lunar Collection by ChrisW Designs. :)

I'm doing the smallest one called the Quarter Moon. 

It took me forever to do the prep work but that's done, phew! And now I'm on to the fun part, construction!

So much fun!! I work on the slip pocket next. I might make some card slots or something for inside. I have that top slip pocket for inside already, though. 

Update on 07/19/16:

I'm on step 10 or something. 

This is an older pic. Feet are on the bag and I've made the side pockets. So fun! I sewed the wrong length zip, so I have to recut the zip tabs (I had to cut them off) and try again. 

Update on 08/19/16:

I furiously finished it last weekend! I decided to use some pre made cork straps instead of the fabric ones. I love carrying this one around!

NCW #2 for my mom with grommets

I made my mom my second NCW. I need to buy some grommets because I want to try attaching the sides that way. I also need to reprint the pattern because I think my pieces are off. 

Pictures below are before the grommets. I aim to go buy some now. 

Update: I finished it up, installed the grommets, and now it's waiting for Scotchguard. :)

The chain is through the grommets there. I have all hardware taped for the spray. 

Oh and I made the wrist strap, too. :)

NCW, Lunar Quarter Moon, and an Ethel

I am currently working on three projects. Well, four if you count the charm pack love notes quilt. 

I started cutting out an Ethel bag by Swoon patterns. It'll be so purdy. I still have the straps, stabilizer, and interfacing to cut. (I don't like cutting)

Then I started an NCW for my mom. I have an idea about using grommets on the sides. 

Finally, I joined a sew along. It's for a bag called the Lunar Quarter Moon. (Smallest of three sizes) I got it through a bag of the month club. It was by Chris W, if I recall correctly. It's probably the most intricate bag I've ever attempted. I've cut out the accent pieces. Next (tonight) will be the main pieces.

Flores Clutch by ithinksew

Well, I got one UFO mostly done. No straps, but those are a quick sew. 

I did a rather nasty job at top stitching. :/ those curves are killer. But this clutch pattern is one of my favorites. 

Okay, so ten minutes later, here it is with the strap. :)

Making Pattern Piece Labels

Tonight I made pattern piece labels. I decided to cut out a bunch of projects because I hate cutting and this will give me some ready to sew goodness. I also worked a bit on my love notes pieces.

Next two projects

I cut out the pieces for a Flores clutch (ithinksew) and picked out fabrics for another NCW. 

I sewed up the edges of a calendar tea towel and a matching tea towel for a friend's birthday. I didn't snap a pic before wrapping it up. I had bought a bunch of calendars for the holidays but was in no state to sew. :/ I finally got my sewjo back, so better late than never, eh? :)

I also worked a little bit on a love notes quilt. I have a TON of charms to sew together. Maybe later I'll snap a pic of that as well as the other things I'm working on. The love notes quilt consists of 4 charm packs of print being sewn to 4 solid white charm packs worth of fabric. I'll have 168 squares when I'm done. I'll then cut those squares into quarters. :/ This quilt will take quite some time to finish. I'm excited about it. I got the idea from Missouri Star Quilt Co.

Exploding TARDIS Throw

I So I bought one of those no sew throws from Joann's. I laid it out and my handsome boxer boy decided it was for him. :)

Last night I was able to get it half way done before collapsing in bed. When I went to take a picture this morning, boxer boy decided I needed him in on the shot. Silly boy! Silly me for thinking I could get the shot before he finished his breakfast elsewhere. 

The throw was fun and easy. Definitely something a kid would enjoy. :) I don't plan on making any more, though. ;)

Blue Calla's Clematis

Earlier this week I started cutting some of my Mod Corsage fabric and mirror glitter vinyl from Mikri for a Clematis wristlet. 

I was able to sew it up yesterday. (Well, earlier today but it's one am)

It was pretty easy. But! I'm not crazy about the edges on the vinyl. Also I used a purse zipper. The tape was wider than normal and I should have used a wider seam allowance. Overall it was a fun and satisfying project. :) I plan to do a quick wallet next. 

30 Minute pouch from Craftsy.

My mom went to New York last year on an awesome sewing trip. She brought me back some goodies including leather pieces. I hadn't done anything with them yet. When I came across this pattern on Craftsy, I decided to try it and make something for my wonderful mother! :)

Rawly Wallet from Clobird Designs

I've been wanting to try out Kraft-Tex for a while now. I bought two rolls a while back. I cut and made a Rawly wallet today. Such a quick and satisfying project. Using Kraft Tex, it takes more time to cut out the pattern than to construct it. 

My husband claimed this one. I can't wait to draw some pretty designs on the white KT and sew one up for myself. So so fun and easy! :) I highly recommend this pattern. 

Necessary Clutch Wallet aka NCW

I work on the hexies when I'm watching tv. 

When I have time in my sewing room, I'll do another project. Last night I cut the pieces for an NCW. I was debating between that and Swoon's Ethel. The NCW will coordinate with the London City bag I last posted about. 

Let's see if I remember correctly. The flap will be Ex-Libris inside and out. The zipper pouch outside will also be Ex-Libris. The body and zipper lining will be purple and the card slots will be the blue. 

Here it is done. It took the better part of a very distracted day to sew up. Had I focused on making the wallet without stopping to do things like play with the dog and wash a few windows, it wouldn't have taken quite that long. :)

I love this little clutch. I'm thinking that it'll make a great little wristlet as well. This was my first ever wallet and first ever twist lock. The twist lock wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would have been. I cut the hole for the lock small and kept enlarging it until I got the right size. :)

Color Theory Hexie Flower Quilt.

In the last post, I posted this pic of my first completed flower from the Color Theory mini charm pack. 

Last night I completed the second one. 

As I said earlier in the blog, I'll just add any new work on this quilt to this page. I love making Hexie flowers!!!

It's been almost a year.

I haven't had much motivation to sew in quite some time, but this past weekend I decided to sew up a bag I started in a class in December. It uses Pink Sand Beach Designs' London City pattern. I used Alison Glass's ExLibris fabric. Love that line of fabric!!!

I'm also working on a mini charm pack (well 6 mini charm packs) set of Hexie flowers. It's Moda's Color Theory line. I'm going to appliqué them onto a white background to make a quilt. Here's the first one. 

There are a few other patterns I'd like to try. If I wasn't out sick from work recently, I would have taken tomorrow off to take a bag class, but I can't afford to take more time off. Maybe I'll make the bag or a wallet this weekend. That's all for now! :)
