New pouch fabric

I just cut fabric for another wrapping pouch. It's a mod fabric that I found at Joann's and I love it! I bought quite a bit with different coordinating fat quarters to make a bunch of pouches. :)

I'm not sewing it up tonight. I am organizing my fabric, though. My craft room is in dire need of organizing, so this is a start. I plan to get an armoire from Ikea to put it all away in. Here's some of the fabric all wrapped up! Please excuse the plaid ironing board. ;)

That's all for now! Hopefully I'll get that pouch done tomorrow and I'll be able to share that as well.

New fabric!!

My mom went to a sewing symposium this week.

She got me this!!

I love bees! It's so fun!!!
I'm thinking it'll make a fun 3D pinwheel quilt! :)
Thank you Mom!!! <3

Kitty cat blankets!

I embroidered some fleece for my mom's barn cats to snuggle in with. So soft and fuzzy!

Bowl Cozy

I mentioned that I was going to make bowl cozies. I cut the pieces for the small bowl too small so I'll have to redo that. I turned it into a mug rug / trivet. (Pictures of that later)
Here's the large bowl cozy. So fun!

All materials are cotton, so it's microwaveable. I hate trying to grab a bowl out of the microwave with my cumbersome pot holders, so hopefully this cozy will solve that!

Easy peasy kitchen towels

Sewed these up tonight. The fabric is Amy Butler's Cameo. I found a few tutorials online and then did my own thing.

I cut matching pieces (I have a fat quarter bundle of the line) to make bowl cozy pot holders with. May do that tomorrow. (We'll see, I have somewhere to be though)

The towels aren't new but they were the only ones we had that coordinated with the fabric.  Because this was me messing around and trying a Pin, I didn't feel the need to go buy new. Upcycle FTW!

A big thank you to my husband. These towels were originally his. :)

Towels for my sister and her family

Inspired by a pin for embellished towels, I thought this one up.

Here's my first towel, waiting for the 'ribbon' to be stitched on. I can't wait to finish them. I think they'll turn out neat. :)

Plans

I have a lot of things I want to get done.
I decided this morning that a wrapping pouch would be perfect to bring my lunch to work in!! So there's that.
I have several quilts in my head. I'm most excited about a chevron quilt I thought up out of charm pack pieces.
I have my class project (pillow) to finish as well as three more to go with it.
I have a pillow I embroidered for a friend years ago that I need to finish - it shouldn't take long.
I would like to make a set of bowl pot holders.
I have a quilt that needs to be bound.
And I also have a little zippered pouch for my SIL to sew up for my niece.
I think that's all for now. I'll add anything else that I forgot. :)

To add! I completely forgot the set of towels I need to make as a gift for my sister!!! Doh! Those come first!
I also need to sew up that calendar for myself.
I'd like to sew up more wrapping pouches - I bought some super cute mod fabric that would make some nice ones.

I wasn't going to do much

I had only planned on sewing up the panels for this last wrapping pouch, but yeah. I had to finish it. :)

Not everything done.

I wasn't able to complete the second pouch or calendar this weekend. I did finish the no sew wall pocket (tutorial on Urban Threads) Very easy! I used a couple of layer cake pieces I had laying around. I just got in some new fat quarters, I may switch these out for them. :)

I made a zip pouch to wrap a key and Chapstick for my dad.

I also took that class today. We appliquéd a panel for an envelope pillow. I haven't finished and it needs to be ironed, but here is what I have done thus far!

Jenny Wrapping Pouch

Well, one of my projects for this weekend is done. I've had a headache, so I'm not doing any more tonight. I still have the calendar and other pouch to sew up.

This was after I finished the body, but before I sewed the top and casing for the drawstring.

The following photo is the completed project:

2014 Challenge

I decided to attempt a 52 week challenge.

I'm going to try to sew at least one thing per week.

To make this challenge stream-lined, I'm going to be posting the finished goal items in a different blog: http://slappysews.blogspot.com/In that blog, I'm not posting any in-process photos or going into depth about the items.  That's what this blog is for.  That one is only to track my progress with the challenge over the next year.

A Metal Zipper

I did sew up a quick zippered pouch tonight. I had purchased several fun metal zippers, and I decided to bust one out tonight. Here's how it came out (I am quite pleased - I think it'll really pop with embroidery)

Fabrics

I have cut the fabrics out to make two wrapping pouches. I don't have the energy to sew them up tonight, but they're ready!! My goal for the weekend is to finish the two pouches (let my coworker pick one) and the calendar for my office.

Here are the fabrics I chose for her:

It's been a while!

I took a bit of a crafting break.  I've been rather busy with the holidays and work, as well as preparing for January (lots of birthdays and even an anniversary!)

Next Tuesday (January 7, 2014) I have a class on how to make a quick Hawaiian applique block!  I can't wait!  :)  I love going to classes, and this one will be with my mom, so that's even better!!!  :)  It's crazy.  I am so looking forward to this that I dreamed about it the other night.  Well, it was more of a nightmare.  I dreamed that we arrived at the class, but it was a continuation from another class so I didn't have the base pieces made that we needed.  I was out the class fee and had to sit and watch while everyone else got to sew.  I was so very sad.  How ridiculous!  LOL!

The only thing I've really done lately is I sewed up the edges on a calendar for a coworker of mine.  I told her that I was going to make her a wrapping bag for her to use for her cosmetics when she goes on vacation, so I still need to whip that up.  I need to find out what color / style of fabric she'd like.  I've been working with her for almost 19 years and I have no idea what her favorite color is!  That's bad.  :(  (Granted, we're not in the same office - I'll go for days without running into her)

Oh and I sewed two more wrapping bags just before Christmas.  One was the same white penguin material as in the post below - I gave that to my sister-in-law, and the other was a black background with Christmas mittens on it.  That one I used to hold stocking overflow for my husband.  :)

I guess that's all for right now.  :)  I have a bunch of coupons, so maybe I'll find out what her color preferences are today!

I hope everyone has a wonderful 2014!!!

Oh and a quick update on the blankets that I embroidered for my niece and nephew!  They adored them!!!!  Like, genuinely adored them!  :)  The look on their faces when they opened them up was priceless!!  I'm just hoping that the $3 or $4 blankets that I used hold up for them.  I have a feeling that they're going to be used for a long time to come.  :)
To jog your memory (and because I hate having to scroll back to see what people are referring to when they post updates like this) here are the two embroideries:
